If you buy extra mouth calls of a particular model you like how's the best way to store them for next year? Do I need to open it and separate the reeds and store in the refrigerator or just leave it in the plastic case it came in and store in a cool dry dark place?

Greg Massey

Just leave it like it is and store it in cool dry place or if you want to put it with your others in the frig , that's fine also.

If never used just leave in original packaging. I keep them in the house where we have a consistent temp. The stores don't do anything special.
The addiction will cost you time and money and alienate those close to you. I can give you the names of a dozen addicts — myself included — whose wives begin to get their hackles up a week before turkey season starts and stay mad until a week after it closes.

Last season, I purchased a couple of spares that I did not end up using until this season....

They did not sound good "out of the package" and I just figured it was inconsistency in the call....

When I went to clean the calls, and separate the reeds with a plastic fork tine, I had tremendous difficulty separating the reeds.  I used dish soap to work the tine in and separate the rubber (and of course rinse under water with the tine in between the rubber).  The calls sounded much better after this process...

In generally, I pull them from the case and call...  If they sound good I will use them as is...  If they do not sound so good, I will attempt to separate the latex as just mentioned....
Did I do that?
