To make a long story short, I missed a nice bird this AM. Is it even worth it to go back tomorrow? or even the rest of this week? or do you think he is on to me now.
I don't think he saw me, just my decoy too far off and a loud bang.

I'd ditch the deke and resume the chase in the morning.
If I'm not back in five minutes, wait longer!

I personally don't use them, but if I did then the reason I would ditch it is in case he may associate it with the previous mornings negative encounter, if he is capable of remembering.

Yes.   Turkeys forget.

And they forget a LOT quicker than most turkey hunters would believe.

The good Lord ain't made a gobbler I can't kill.  I just gotta be there at the right time.....  on the day he wants to die.

Yep no respect for us hunters.
Turkeys hear load noises all the time like thunder. If anything he'll be back by the end of the week if not sooner. If possible you might want to try a different call.

Use your decoys and keep hunting. Have fun and enjoy ...

Keep after him. Hunt as you would like. He's forgotten.

Did he see you?   Did you sting him?  Those might make it last a little longer.  I killed a bird and his buddy jumped up 3-4 feet in the air.  I did not move and started calling again.  He settled down, pounced on his buddy, and then proceeded to gobble in the field for an hour.  Worked back by me even closer than the first one.  I killed him the next week.

Go back at it and good luck.

I sure hope they forget. I've educated a couple of Toms this week. Im hoping to get a crack at one of em again.

Go back and get on him in the morning. Set up in a new spot. Some say change calls. Up to you. I have boogered birds and got back on them up in the morning and killed them. Missed one and came back the next morning and killed him 30 yards from where I missed the day before.

Who hasn't missed that's spent a few years chasing gobblers? If I were to pursue the same tom, I'd probably set up in a slightly different spot, use different calls, and a less intimidating decoy, trying to eliminate as many similarities from the prior day as possible. While it might not make a bit of difference, it would boost my confidence to go after the same bird. After, it's our confidence in our set, calling, etc. that keeps us in the woods. This current season, I sat in one spot from 5:30 a.m. - 12 noon before a couple of gobblers finally came in to challenge my jake decoy. One of them road home with me in my truck!
