I know this has been drilled into the ground but got cabin fever and thought I'd repaint my pretty boy decoy head. Didn't know which way to go (all white, red, etc)

Started out wanting more pink but ended up adding more red

Thoughts? I'm sure anything will work but again just got a little bored

My initial reaction is that it's too white and that a subordinate gobbler would interpret your bird as being a dominant bird and might shy away.  Then again, I don't know squat about decoy use so I will bow to the opinions of those here that use them and have experience with that sort of thing.

I've repainted, flocked, added real wing feathers and a real fan to my jake. I don't think it really helps, but when I use him, I sit and admire my artistic talent. Lol

Ive repainted my decoy by looking on line at Gobbler head pictures they got red white and blues streaks so thats how it got painted also made it a full grown beard by replacing the plastic stuff they had for a Jake  and put some  Hemp rope in there now besides the fan its a full blown Gobbler all the way down to the waddles. :firefighter:

I am with the "Nut" on this one...

Add some more red, as that white could be intimidating to a more subordinate bird...  Or so I would think.
Did I do that?

Fly fishermen are born honest, but they get over it.

I am contemplating that...the good thing is, I  can always change the paint scheme so nothing is final!

Went with the red white and blue

I agree. It looks much more realistic now. :icon_thumright:

I remember an old video Jason cruise made. He stated in several formats to make your tom heads as white as possible. This way 2-6 year old, it doesn't matter. Any gobbler will seek to bust up a mating party that is signified by a white head.
