I am thinking about a out of state turkey hunt next year. I live in Utah and dont want to travel to far. Just want to hunt a bird with a big beard and spurs witch we dont have around here. Any thoughts? What is the cost for a non res tag in a good state. Thanks for the help.

Turkey Trot

There are Rios and Merriams that can be hunted within a day's drive of SLC, but I don't know where in Utah you are.

Eastern MT, northern WY, ID, eastern WA.

Missouri has some of the biggest beards and spurs and a lot of turkeys too. License costs 190 dollars

Big birds, spurs and thick beards = MISSOURI
If I could go to just one state, it would be Missouri

I agree with Barry, I would hunt  Missouri.

The O.P. stated that he lives in UT and does not want to go very far.  Missouri is not that close to UT.

He also stated he wants  "to hunt a bird with a big beard and spurs" and it doesn't appear any of his neighboring states will offer what he is after
From what I read here on the board it would appear Mizzou is the "BEST" place for what he wants.
For shear numbers of birds and liberal bag limits I would would consider a Kansas/Nebraska combo hunt where he could hunt Rios, Easterns and Hybrids. With a 5 bird limit between the 2 states it's a good chance of getting the beard and spurs he's looking for.

Good advice!
If I had a dollar for every gobbler I thought I fooled I'd be well off!
