It has begun. 10 minutes on the interstate in my neck of the woods and at least 15 trucks loaded with ATV's, cooler and gear have passed me. It is the annual pilgrimage to Wv for opening day of rifle season. Thank God I can live in an area where hunting is a way of life, camo doesnt raise any eyebrows and kids can still drag the rack from the buck they killed on youth day to school. (Just happened at my boys school.) No matter how we decide to hunt l am thankful that it still exists and that in some places tradition and camaraderie are still alive and well. Good luck gentlemen. Hunt to make yourselves happy and no one else. Play by the rules and enjoy every second in the woods. I know my highlight will be tomorrow evening holding a glass of bourbon listening to old men tell lies. And hopefully monday morning I get to hear my boys gun crack and help him drag a buck out. That will make things perfect in my world.

Agreed!  It's great great to live where we can still be proud of our hunting heritage!

Happy, ------ what percentage of those hunting trucks are leased and on their way to hunt public ground vs privately owned trucks on their way to hunt leased property?

Hope your son has a great day in the woods and gets his buck.

Happy

Funny you ask eggshell, according to a survey I just made up. 89% of the trucks were not leased. 7% were leased and 4% were actually paid off. Of further interest was that 31% were also bow hunters, 62% were rifle only and 7% only plan on shooting from the truck window. After they recover from the Sunday night hangover.

Oh and also, judging from the bags of corn strapped to the 4 wheelers and side by sides there were lots of master baiters.

Best of luck to you and your boy, tip one back for me, I can't drink often with my medication and not at all on my current diet.

Good luck to all the WV hunters venturing out into God's creation this fall.
Our gun season starts in early Nov each year.  I start seeing folks heading to the woods with gear before Labor Day each year.

Thanks fellows. The boy should be fine. This is his first opening day but he is going to be in a great funnel that typically has the deer getting pushed through at first light. I hunted it a few years in a row and always had at least 1 buck come through in the first half hour. Not to worried bout myself. I have had a good bow season and already killed a few. I just hit the woods yesterday and found myself a new spot where I will be close if he needs anything. Either gonna be a hero or zero. Visibility is 40 yards at best except for 1 lane I can maybe get 60 or 70 yards. Hope everyone hunting has a good time. Met a 76 year old gentleman out pulling his camera cards and we wound up sitting and talking for over an hour. He just lost his 43 year old son this spring and was still struggling with it. We laughed some and sometimes there were tears welling up in his eyes. It's just a reminder that there a more important things out there and make sure everyone you love knows what they mean to you. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and gets plenty of time with friends and family.
