Hunting in the wind

Looking for some advice.  Set up before dark on a roost and had 2 nice Longbeards pitch down but just out of gun range.  Lots of birds all around but about 7:30am, the wind kicked up and howled all day with gusts up to 45-mph and temps dropped from 65 in the morning to 44 by afternoon (Spring in Nebraska).   Tried to stick to open valleys and wind breaks where I thought birds might be holed up in the wind.   Calling was obviously difficult, but has anyone had any luck in high winds?   It's almost as if the ground swallowed up all of the birds and they just disappeared.

Yep. I wouldnt know what to do here without wind. Can be great for spot and stalk as the wind covers your noise (be very careful if you spot and stalk). Ive killed birds in strong winds, when they gobble you know they are close. We had similar conditions yesterday and I called in 3 jakes 5 min after sitting down.

You did exactly what I would have done. I'm sure you did,but of course I use a call that can reach out in the wind. I'm sure the quick change in weather was more of your culprit than you. It was plain nasty. Lol..

Yes, broke out the Longbox and cranked up the volume.   Guess I just have to chalk it up to a bad day of hunting (but still better than being at work)   ;D
