Two days ago I had 2 toms walk by me at 40 yards. Tried my best to hit him in the head. I fired and he dropped like lightning hit him. I was using number 7 shot. I found the turkey had about 10 pellets from his neck to his head. Only one pellet hit his breast. It was one of those shots that you wish would happen every time.I practiced with about 3 boxes from 30 to 55 yards. I was amazed how at 55 yards how well my old winchester 120 grouped this ammunition. I was using a pure gold turkey choke.

Heck, I can barely see a turkey at 55 yards, let alone tell how good a bird it is.

The only reason I was practicing out to 55 yards was just to see how it was grouping. I took a few at 20 yards and was happy with it. I figured if I practiced at longer yards that shorter shots would be a piece of cake.

#7 are bad medicine. All I shoot.

Spending $6 to $8 a pop to practice multiples at 20 yards seems like it wouldn't really provide much data.

100% in the 10 inch every shot...? :funnyturkey:

I have always "practiced" with target loads.  A lot less expensive, and less recoil...  And that extra recoil (although not noticed while taking a turkey) is certainly felt while shooting paper....

I cannot speak to TSS, but my Hevi-shot loads shoot to the same spot that cheap Walmart target loads do...  The pattern looks a bit different, but I get a good handle on where the gun is shooting with cheapo's...

First figure out where the gun is shooting, where the hold point is, etc...  and then pattern a good shell or two to make sure the choke/shell combination is patterning how and where you want it..

Did I do that?

Fly fishermen are born honest, but they get over it.

Practice??  It's a shotgun not a .17 where you have to hit him in the ear.  At 20yds you can kill him with a .410.  I must be getting too old to take this serious!

I don't think their practicing as much as just seeing where their guns point of aim is and maybe checking out the pattern.
