Well, my second kiddo is due tomorrow so my time in the woods will probably be getting cut a bit.(for a good reason)

Decided to go this morning before work last minute and was running a tad late. I was about 80
Yards from where I was trying to slip in to when a turkey gobbled pretty close to the tree I was wanting to sit on.

I was cutting through some thicker pines so as not to be out in the open walking in. I should have taken a bit more time in picking my initial setup but found a spot that was a bit more open that i thought he may come to.

I purred and clucked and he answered. The next time he gobbled he had slid directly to my right and was about 50 yds from me. I could just get glimpses of him strutting through the underbrush. He then walked back up to where he initially started and eased a tad further away so I belly crawled to where I could see the hardwoods and yelped.

He answered and made his way back to me getting to about 40 yds. I had one little pile of thick stuff in front of me and never could get comfortable with a shot so I waited. He slipped back down further from me again out to about 60 yds.

As he was walking away I belly crawled another 5 yds to get Around the pile that was in front of me.

Once repositioned I yelped again and he came back again this time coming into 25-30 yds. This whole time he didn't stop gobbling. He probably gobbled 50-60 times on the ground within 60 yards of me.

I was in somewhat of an awkward position but still shouldn't have missed him.

All in all it was still a terrific morning in the woods enjoying creation. The bird did everything that I could ask for in. Turkey hunt I just didn't hold up my end of the deal so he lives to see another day.

Just doing my part in sharpening the species ha.

Turkey hunters don't miss.  Now some of us have been known to fire a warning shot ever now and then to keep things sporting.
If I'm not back in five minutes, wait longer!

It happens to us all!

I've fired a couple warning shots in my life. Hope things go well with the second kiddo

Some days it seems them birds were hatched  with a lucky streak but look on the bright side you didn't have to pack him out..by the way congrats on the new arrival of your family

I scared the hell out of one last year, still have nightmares about it.  If you always got one, it wouldn't be very fun.

It happens. I have missed one or three in my day and it sucks. Hung up birds or any of the multitude of things that can go wrong don't bother me near as much as a miss does.

Just think, now you get to restart your streak of not missing....lol

Seriously though, it does happen to us all once in a while. Last year was the first miss I had in about 7 years. It sucked but I killed him the next day

It happens, that just means you get to hunt him another day!

Sounds like an exciting hunt! As Dad would tell always tell me, "That's why it called hunting and not killing". And congrats on the new addition to the family!

I can't remember exactly every bird I have shot but I have couple misses I sure can remember vividly. Hahaha

I call it " Season Stretching"  :funnyturkey:

I missed one for the first time ever Wednesday morn, that was almost 19 seasons and a heap of birds. It was my fault on not fine tuning new equipment. I was beyond sick/surprised when I pulled the trigger and he ran off instead of flopping, I immediately went and shot my gun on paper and saw why I missed.
