Never had an issue, been on the gun for better than 20 years... They are meant to be "Free Floating"
I have an 11-87 with "factory" cantilever and one with the rib mount.

If you like a forward mounted optic like a red dot or extended eye relief scope Aimtech makes a mount called the Rib Rider. Mine has held zero on my 3 1/2 inch 12 for 6 or 7 years.

Agree, they should be free floating if they are strong enough.  Your rib mounted one looks much more heavy duty than the B square, which is smaller and made of aluminum. They do flex and over time mine did move slightly.   Who makes/made the one you have?

Hate to say but my old gunsmith team did this for my dad when we were building his gun ( this would have been mid/late 90's), I really have no idea other than it is steel, We had it & scope dipped to match gun... I do remember it was ordered from Brownell's...
