Good evening Old Gobbler team,
I am a fairly new to turkey hunter and I am looking for some guidance on setting up my red dot reflex sight. I have a vortex venom 6 moa mounted on a 870 super mag. What distance should I zero the red dot? Any other recommendations for getting setup? I have three different choke tubes that I will be trying out with various types of loads. Thanks in advance for your help.

start at 10-15 yards with dove loads to get your POA and POI close and to save your shoulder

Genesis 27:3 - Now then, get your weapons—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.

Also, pattern out your chokes before you make the final adjustments.  Get it close to start with the lighter loads likejblackburn said.  Find the pattern you like best, then get her dialed in. :anim_25:

I zero for dead on at 20 yards. Double check at 40 and call it good.

With a Red dot, start at 12.5 yards with dove loads (12.5 because most red dots adjustments are 1/4 inch at 50 yards) this means 1/16th inch for each click at 12.5 yards.  Make adjustments, shoot again at 25 yards for dead on and then shoot 1 turkey load at 40 to see what your choke, ammo and gun are doing.

Appreciate the information provided.

Is there generally any difference between 20 and 40 yards?

What distance do you guys feel you start to see some drop?
Did I do that?

It's better to be dead on at 15-20 yds. That's where the misses happen
