Going to be patterning my new turkey gun, Rem 870 supermag 23" barrel. Already have a hevi .662 choke, going to pick up either a .660 jelly head or .665 Indian creek to try as well. Would like to shoot either the hevi13 3-1/2" #6. Which choke with that gun/load combo do y'all think would perform best?

I have the same gun and I get my best pattern with
the choke that came with it.

Unable to generate any consistent patterns with the Hevi 3.5/ 6's. Hevi 13 .662 will turn good patterns out of all of my 870's with Hevi  3/2/7's.  I hear the stock choke does well with Hevi 3/2/6's.

Gobble!

Tough to call all three good chokes.

Ended up picking up the 665 Indian creek from midway since it is on sale for 55 right now. I plan on trying it and the 662 hevi choke with 3-1/2" #6, 3" #6, and 3-1/2" mag blend. I am Leary on the mag blend, something about the various shot size leads me to believe it can cause pattern inconsistencies...may just be in my head!

I have a 870 SPS SM with 23" barrel and I settled on the Indian Creek .665 after also trying the factory choke and a Jelly Head.  All three did well but the IC was a bit better.  What I also saw is I got more consistent patterns with 3 inch loads compared to 3 1/2.  Doing a good deep clean on the barrel also improved consistency.

Went an patterned my gun today...with 3-1/2" #6 and Mag Blend I was ranging from 160 to 183 pellets in a 10" circle at 40 yards. Would y'all keep working on the pattern or take that an run? It was with a Indian creek 665

I got 196 at 40 from my 870/3.5/ LB #5 with a Hevi .662. Just posted in the pattern section. My pattern falls off about 15-20 pellets after each shot. Make sure to have a clean dry barrel is what i noticed

That all sounds about right for a 23" bbl gun...

I think all the choke choices are pretty much good, as is the H-13 6's...

160-180 is what I've been getting for many years, with the occasional 200-220, all from a 24" bbl BPS...

I think you are good to go, or at least good enough for now...

We run 650 in 3 inch gun.  665 has also gave real good pattern.      Now jelly head is one of the hardest chokes we have seen to beat when folks come by to test.   I have always told them if we can't beat it shy buy one.  LoL.
Tell us just how dead do you want them to be and we will see if we can get that for you.

You should get a much better pattern shooting the 3 inch Hevi 6's thru the IC .665 choke. :z-winnersmiley: They just seem to pattern better than the 3 1/2" load.

Txag12

I will try those 3 inch loads. I was limited by time yesterday, but plan on pretending again this weekend. Have 3" #6 hevi 13 and 3" mag blend I am going to try as well.

My SM does better with 3" loads and so does my shoulder... :fud:

Have a .665 Indian Creek that turns good patterns with Hevi 13 3" 7's and the older 3" Magblends.

Txag12

Ended up going through 3" magblends and # 6, as well as 3-1/2 mag blends and hevi...tried Indian creek 665, hevi 662, and Remington extended .670.

Remington .670 performed best with 3 inch #6...consistent 170-180

Indian creek was best with 3 inch and 3-1/2 mag blends in the 170-195 range

Hevi .662 did not like the 3 inch 6's...but consistently put 200-220 with the mag blends and 210-230 with 3-1/2 6's with two outliers one at 181 and another at 254

I will post pics later if I can find how to make it work but think I'll be doing the 3-1/2 hevi 13 #6 with hevi 662
