Check out the turkey call section of the forum.  You will find lots of input and comments there.  There are a number of folks here that can build you a call that will bring in the birds without emptying your wallet.

Well by inquiriing about custom calls you are on the right track.  I hunted with factory made calls for years.  The custom calls are far and away superior calls.  The call makers on this forum are all very talented call makers.  Once you start using this site and seing what they can do and using there calls its just awesome and gives you a whole new confidence in the woods.  Last weekend I called in a big gobber for a youth using one of Wendells lights out pot and pen calls and hooks diaghram calls.  It was a deadly combination!

I'm a little surprised that you said you're not very good with a Supreme Pure Death pot.  I've heard nothing but Praise over the Supreme Pot Calls.  If I were you, I would suggest trying some different strikers before investing money in different pot calls.  It really is truly amazing how much a good striker will bring to life a seemly average to below average call and in no way am I insinuating that about the call you have now because like I said before.  I have heard nothing but total praise over a Supreme Pure Death call and have considered getting one myself.

Many times its not the call itself but actually the striker that the person is using.  Not only does the wood or material of the striker matter in grabbing that surface but also the weight distribution and the shape of the tip of that striker matters a ton with producing a quality sound with any pot call.   With that said I myself highly suggest an Ebony tipped striker with a pointed flare.  It is a remarkable combination on any calling surface.

I wish you luck and like a said, don't give up on that Supreme Pure Death... Experiment with some different strikers and see what happens.

Good Luck  :icon_thumright:

Here is an example of the tip of a striker that in my opinion
works very well with any calling surface.

Best is just a matter of personal opinion. I've had good luck with these. The birds like 'em.

Great advice from Bird, the only thing i could possibly add is that your call might need properly conditioned, and the striker might need a little attention as well.  Good luck!

I've been using Andy Kaiser calls for several years with excellent results.  Wendell Rye also makes an excellent pot/peg.
