I managed to bag my first bird this year! I had half heartedly hunted turkeys the previous two years but the addiction didn't start till the last day of season last year when I called in a tom to 15 yards but didn't have a shot. Well this season started off slow not much gobbling. We had seen a couple long beards a Jake and a few hens so we knew there were bird in the area. I took April 1st off to hunt all day with my 15 year old brother. It was raining pretty good so we made way to the blind on a cow pasture I can hunt. We was waiting for a bird to sound off when my brother tells me he can see a bird in the wood line across the field. I yelped at him and when I done that he seen our decoys and went into full strut. He stayed on that side of the field gobbling and strutting for what seemed like forever. he was fired up and cutting my calling off. I made a series of cuts at him and he gobbled and started inching his way closer. He went bending a hill and I got ready. He appeared on the side of that hill and strutted up to the decoys at 20 yards where I gave him a face full of longboard #5s! I pulled out my phone to take picture and it was 7:30 on the dot. It was a quick hunt but one I will remember forever. He had 1 inch spurs 10 inch beard I didn't weigh him.
