Okay everyone, I going to pick up my new 20 ga turkey gun tomorrow and was planning on getting some 3" Federal Heavyweight No.7, but the problem is, I can't find any anywhere!!! I am wanting to use this gun for the upcoming 4th season here in Iowa. What other loads would you recommend? I was looking at the 3" Hevi Shot Magnum Blend or the Heavy Metal loads. This will be just for this season and I will get some #7's next year to pattern.

Bottom line is what other loads should I pick up to pattern this gun with tomorrow?

Thanks!!

I forgot to mention, I can find Federal Heavyweight #6 in 3" with a 1 1/2oz payload also? Maybe I will try to get a box of these as well to pattern?

Again any and all input will be great

What I got to pattern mine with was a box of 25 federal 3 in. 20 gauge 1 1/4 upland game number 6 with buffer any copper plated...this was like 18,00 box and this was just for shooting and getting it on paper.  If I were you for hunting now I would get some Hevi-shot 3 in. 1 1/4,  7 shot.  Right now Buds Guns has the best price and also you can get a rebate of either 10,00 for one box or 20,00 off two boxes.

Id kick the idea of hevi metal. I'd try to find some hevi 13 7s, try the hw 6s, hevi 6s, and blends.   If you would spend some time you could probably work up a good 35 yard load with lead    Federal 15/16 6 or 5s, thug 5s, or win xx 5s.    Good luck

Alright, I'll check these out, thanks.

Anyone else?

Keep in mind that most of your shots are going to be within 35 yards so just know your range. I would look for some Hevi #6's or Mag blend at this point. Most of those are pretty readily available at sporting goods stores like Academy Sports.  If you have time to order some, then yes, get Hevi 3" #7's.  They ruled the 20 ga turkey world before Fed HW come out so don't think for a minute they are inferior.

Just and FYI which I'm sure you know now, buy 5 to 10 boxes of Fed in the off season because this happens every year.

Oh yea, I was already planning on buying 10 boxes when I can! I will order some Hevi 3" #7.

Thanks everyone

CB on the run

I've patterned Fed HW 6's & 7's at 40 yards and both have killing patterns out of my Remmy w/21" bbl printing 120 and 150 respectively.  I got 180's out the Hevi 7's and 210+ from the Nitro 7's.  I shoot the Fed Hw 6's in the fall now and stuff a Nitro 7 in the chamber with either a Fed 7 or Hevi 7 as back up.  Just picked up a box of Nitro 4x5x7's as I couldn't get straight 7's, but have not patterned them yet.
You shouldn't have a problem with any of these shells.  Good luck.

these shells right here that you have will kill any turkey that walks out to 35 yds easy, you just got to find the right choke/pattern combo
