Me and my dad went back to the same area he killed his gobbler on monday and slipped in pretty early.  As we set up against a large oak I leaned back and looked up putting my face mask on and noticed a black blob in the top of a tree about 15 yards from us, I said there is no way we got in here and cut off the small branches without spooking this bird if it was a turkey.  Well about that time the black blob stood up and shook, I was hoping at that time it was a hen and if it did spook we didn't have to worry about her.  Well the bird soon stood up on the branch and my dad said he could see a beard, luckily for us the bird had been facing the opposite direction.  The bird soon faced our direction and began looking around, thinking the hunt was over and he was gonna be spooked some geese went off and he gobbled.  GAME ON!!! I guess by the grace of god he was in a deep sleep when we were setting up and didn't spot us, soon he began strutting on the limb and gobbled one more time.  Once it was light enough he began looking down towards the ground straight at us to see where he wanted to fly down, he eventually pitched down straight at us and landed about 30 yards behind us.  With the tree being large enough we were sitting against, when he pitched down I quickly turned my head to see him land behind us.  Once on the ground he went straight into strut, he then made the fatal mistake and started walking to the right which put him behind a large white oak  allowing me to get my gun around and in his direction.  Once he came out from behind the tree he continued to strut and walked out from behind the tree, BOOM #3 was down.  The bird didn't have his feet on the ground for more than 30 seconds and was dead at 6:20.

With it being still very early and knowing where more birds were on another farm about 2 miles down the street I told my dad lets go try them and try and get his second bird.  We got to the second farm and I decided to set up on a field that was covered up with birds last year and to just sit there for about 45 minutes and see what happens.  I let out a few calls and gobbled on the haint, I did this 2 separate times and then just sat back.  After a few minutes my dad said "here they come", he could see 5 coming straight down the tree line about 200 yards out.  He said "they are running right at us, about this time I could see them and noticed it was 5 jakes coming and they looked to be in a hurry.  All 5 jakes ran right up to the DSD jake and began to let him have it, realizing they weren't paying any attention to us I got my iPhone out and began recording the action.  I told my dad to just sit back and watch the show, finally one of the birds separated enough to get a shot and he punched his second tag.  Absolutely awesome morning and a double by 8:30.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.
