After a few days of scouting and hunting, I was at the WMA on a day he was lonely and wanted to play! He made the mistake of gobbling early and I was able to slip down the trail and get with 100 yards or so of the roost. He was gobbling at everything, owls, crows, a far of donkey (literally!), too much, I was afraid he would attract other hunters, and after that decoy shooting business, I have been a little nervous.
Anyway, I gave a few light tree yelps and clucks on the Gooserbat OsS and he immediately responded. I sat there for a few minutes then flapped the turkey wing I carry like a hen flying down. A couple more clucks and scratching in the leaves had him fired up.
I heard him fly down, so I clucked and light yelped and got ready. Soon I heard, pfffffttttttt vrrooooomm as he appeared in full strut walking the trail. A few moments later he was standing at 25 yards looking for his hen, so I introduced him to Hevi-6s from the 870 and he never flopped!
