Decide for yourself. Get on Youtube and watch a bunch of videos. Watch the color of gobbler heads as they interact with other birds and decoys. Then go buy those cheap hobby paints and paint the head the way you want it.

Here's a link for review  http://bestturkeydecoy.com/body-language/  From what I've seen in most outdoor videos, the dominant strutting bird normally has a white head with a long snood.  The less dominant will sport red heads and short snoods.  I've painted several jakes and I use mostly red color with a dash of white.

I think it looks a lot better painted.

No each feather was cut/trimmed and glued on. Takes a bit of time but turns out nice.
