My son Noah drew a youth hunt permit for this weekend at a local WMA. This is the third time in as many years that he has drawn this hunt. The last two years were unsuccessful with henned up and quiet birds. Saturday morning was more of the same. We heard a few birds on the limb, but they hit the ground and went completely silent. We went to plan B about a mile and a half away for Sunday's hunt. That decision was money. We snuck within 100 yards of four lovesick gobblers and had them racing in on a string from the time their feet hit the ground. Five minutes and over 40 gobbles later, one of them took a dirt nap at 7 yards. This is Noah's first Eastern and only second ever gobbler. It is also his first public land bird. At 12 years old, he is already halfway to a grand slam. 10" beard, 1-1/4" spurs and 19 lbs.

Hunt with your children today and you won't have to hunt for them tomorrow.
