Trying my hand at painting feathers...pappy

Got a ways to go yet, this is my first one, got too much paint on the body caused the feather to separate when it dried...gonna add detail to it today....how does it look? thanks, pappy

Pappy if you did not do this, try stabilizing the feather with clear coat first.  This will slightly stiffen the feathers and keep them from separating.

You can do just the back side or both sides for more strength, a matte finish is invisible especially once the feather is behind glass.

I did not put any kind of coating on the feather to start out, I was told that if you did that you would lose the natural feel of the feather. But I was told that a matte finish would be ok after the feather is painted I may have to try both ways, huh?

Correct you loose the feel of the feather, but it makes it a lot easier to paint :)  Not sure what the big deal is retaining the "feel" when trying to paint it?

Just a trick I learned from a professional feather painter.
