A fellow I get some of my wood from sent this block a while back and I don't have a clue what it is.  I think it may be red oak with both sapwood and heart, but not sure.  All I know is it made a great pot and I would like more of it.  Thanks in advance for any help.

A WAG here, but it looks like Spalted Sycamore....

Definitely looks like some spalting going on there.  Looks great.

No trees were hurt in the sending of this message, however a large number of electrons were highly inconvenienced.

Thanks guys.  I felt like it was oak, but wasn't sure.

Looks to white to be oak, looks more like spalted maple.

MikeStaten

I'd guess maple or maybe even spalted poplar.

definitely oak...

Yup.  The grain isn't right to be maple or poplar....

I've cut a lot of firewood... never built a call but I can tell you that's oak. Red oak has distinct smell when you work it.

J Brown

It's red oak you can tell by the rays in it. The sap wood is dead to give it the spalted look.  That is a grate looking call   :boon:
