Another mixed bag for Alabama ranging from limits before April to hearing very few birds all season.
Very poor to average season for me but better than last year. I worked hard to call up a total of 7 gobblers with only three of those being shot. One pair came in on the single bird I killed a couple of weeks ago.
Watching pics of more gobblers strutting at once than you see here in a season is something.
I never had a hen anywhere close to me the entire spring and saw very few hen tracks. Disturbing for me that there wasn't more hen activity and tracks seen.

Hanging it up till March 15,2015. :newmascot:

Yes it is , yes it is. Can't wait for march 15 to get here.

We had a bunch of hens on the land I hunt. It seemed like every time I hunted somewhere new there would be 3 or 4 Jakes in the area also. But there wasn't very many long beards so I made the decision to not take anymore off the land I hunt. I figure 3 is better than killing them out.  One spot I hunt is 2600 ac. I heard 5 gobbling turkeys on it the entire season. So next year there should be a few more I haven't hunted but 4 or 5 days the month of April.

I can feel your pain but it beats not hearing anything for a couple of weeks , very common in the 60's.

I don't know where you hunt in Alabama but this was my best season in my 21 years turkey hunting.  I hunt on the northern edge of what is considered west central Alabama in a county that borders MS.  Even though the population is still way down I saw several indications that it may be turning around.  I got my limit by last Thursday.  I hunt the same 1200-1500 acres I always have so I know my land like the back of my hand and I know almost every bird on the place.  This year I had 10 Jakes on the property and I haven't seen a Jake the past 2 seasons so that gives me hope.  This season I saw about 20 more hens and right after last season many hens I saw had poults with them where as the 2 seasons before I had not seen any at all. I also know that there are at least a handful of longbeards still there that I didn't kill.  I am very fortunate to have the amount of private land to hunt on that I do and to be the only person that turkey hunts it.  I don't know what can be done about he population decline but I do know that I am going to be doing more planting specifically for turkeys to hold what I have and pull from the bordering land.  I wish you and everyone else great hunting in the future!

Great season for me. Tagged out(5) on long beards with one having a 11in and 81/2in beards with 11/2in spurs. Called in lots of jakes and saw many hens. Hunted public and private land. In fact the wma I hunt had a record # of birds taken this yr. ...Next yr should be good also. Lots of gobblers left and an awesome number of jakes running around...
