Well, bird #2 of the season got on the ground 15 minutes into my first hunt in SE Alabama this past Saturday...  After getting rained out all day long Friday, my brother & I were itching to get out & hunt together - and apparently the birds were ready to get their groove on, as well; lots of gobbling, even though it was very windy, spitting rain, cloudy, etc. - not your blue bird sky turkey morning at all...  After we heard our first gobbler, we setup on him & called & within less than 5 minutes, we had a jake & a hen come running into our setup (we were inside the huge limbs of a downed oak tree in our pasture; made for an awesome blind)...  We decided to let him go, in favor of pulling in big boy...  After another 10 minutes or so, 5 gobblers stepped into the lower corner of the pasture, and we got very excited - until we realized, all of 'em were jakes!  :(  Well, since we obviously have an abundance of jakes, I decided to go ahead & blast the biggest one once they got into gun range...

Glad I took him, as the following day, we were met with *NO* gobbling at all, but stumbled onto a pile of turkeys, with a huge strutter on my PawPaw's land; my brother made the crawl on him & got to within 50 or so steps - fired off a shot - and missed!!  :(  He was pretty sick about that all day, and half of the next day...  :)  We only heard sparse gobbling Monday thru today, when I had to return home...

My brother's step-son's cat got into my fan and tore it a new one; not sure if it's salvagable or not, but...  Oh well, it was just a jake - although it had some really nice, pretty red hues to the feathers, which I don't see around my neck of the woods...  All in all, we had a blast - got on birds the entire time, but only got 'em into gun range twice...  We're super excited about the coming years of turkey hunting; a lot of promising signs of birds on our land & surrounding properties, it appears...

Thx guys; Slamman, I've actually got the hunt on video - there's a guy in the office that I might recruit his help to edit the video some...  My sister-in-law snapped pics, so I'll try to get those from her, too...
