Exciting disappointing hunt

Well a lot of y'all know this is my first year turkey hunting so I'm learning as I go. Today I woke up early, got to my club about 5am and started walking to a spot that I've kinda narrowed down to their roost. Well, I heard one bird and he seemed far, far away but I don't mind chasing a bird for a mile if I have too, so that's what I did. I moved about 400yds, called and the bird responded. He's still a good ways away but he isn't getting farther which is a good thing. I walked about 1000yds and called, he responded again and wasn't too far away. You guessed it, I walked about another 500yds and called and gobbled once again. I was close, very close. I knew there was a river coming up and prayed to god he wasn't on the other side. I walked through some brush and there he was, sitting across the river from me strutting his head off and blowing up taunting me. I sat down and laughed, I chased this bird a mile or more and I don't even get a chance at him. The shot was probably 75yds but I'm a ethical hunter so I didn't take a shot, but boy I wanted too. I'm officially hooked. I love this adrenaline.

To me that's almost as good as punching the tag... Now you know how to get him...

Bad thing is, the field across the river isn't our clubs land and I'm not even sure how to get to it.

Did you set up and try to call him across?  I know that it's difficult, but I also know from experience that it isn't impossible.

I love golf.  It keeps a lot of people out of the turkey woods.

I tried for about 15mins with no success. I mean everytime I called he would cut me off so I was hoping he would.

Sometimes getting aggressive will get them to fly across.  But you did the safe thing.  He might pitch down on your side tomorrow morning.

Genesis 27:3 - Now then, get your weapons—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.

It's going down in the morning. Do you guys think this will be fine paddling across a river?
