Breaking them up the night before?

Has anyone had any success by breaking up the gobblers away from the hens the night before?  The gobblers here are locked down with hens all day so I was thinking if I can get roosted to try and break them up right at dark and go back the next morning.  I think this is about the only way they will be vulnerable and susceptible to calling.
