Well I finally made it to the beautiful Black Hills this past week.  My brother, brother-in-law and myself were all fortunate enough to tag out in three days of hunting.  I wanted to share this pic of the bird my brother-in-law killed.  No wing barring at all just black.  I was wondering if any of you had any idea of what type of color phase this is.  Definitely something I've never encountered.

I wish he picture was bigger, but I have not seen a bird with that coloring before!

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

Well, he is from the Black Hills-maybe has something to do with location?  :camohat: Cool bird. I saw one very similar this year in Illinois, but didn't get a shot at him, had to shoot his buddy.
