Strikers/sometimes they just dont work right

Im always experimenting with different woods for strikers and sometimes they are just so pitchy they just dont make the cut. A screachy striker is no good. I found that a little rain chalk on the tip helps. Do all of you experience this at times? Im sure you do. Do you have a fix or cure? Do you find the harder woods to be better on slate? Ive been at this game for a while and am always learning new things.

Sometimes it is just the type of wood itself.

Other factors include:
wood density
diameter of shaft
diameter of head
overall balance of top to bottom

Those are all factors you just have to play with in order to find a happy medium for your style.
I am not sure there is any one formula for a magic striker that will run perfectly on every call.
