Federal turkey loads?

I read somewhere that the Federal Premium flight control wads dont do as well out of a ported choke, I was wondering if anyone had any opinion on if it matters. I shot 3" #5's and was not impressed because the #6's (without the fcw) patterned better farther. Just curious if anyone has shot the federal turkey loads much. Thanks!

With fcw non ported and non wad stripping chokes are the way to go.  I have heard a few cases where people got good patterns with ported chokes but that's a very small group.  Depending on what gun your using a lot of manufactures are making chokes specific to match up with the fcw (non ported and non wad stripping) in various exit dia.  Just to ask what ga and gun are your working with?

If you are going to be shooting a Federal shell with the fcw I suggest using a choke that is non ported and has no type of wad catchers/strippers. However I have seen a few people get good results with the Federal heavyweights using the ported Pure Gold chokes. I prefer the PG Tempest or to have something custon spun up for the fcw loads. There is a new one by Indian Creek out called the Haymaker that is made for the fcw loads as well but I have not tested one yet. Personally I stay away from the Federal lead loads with the fcw, they are garbage. Give thier new turkey thug loads a try, you may be surprised!

Stoeger m3000 with a tight wad

Change chokes and shells is the first thing I would do. Do you have the option to do so?

3" 870 Shell Shucker

Forget about the FCW and try the Federal Turkey Thugs.

I was thinking about trying the factory choke with the fcw seeing as I bought them and would hate to waste them, I was just shocked that the #6's put a tighter pattern at that distance than the #5's. Anyone had any luck with the factory stoeger turkey choke?
