Hey all. I've just recently returned to Tennessee and I've been searching for some land to hunt. Does anyone know of any good public land in West Tennessee? I would even be open to a lease.  I'm an active duty Marine that just needs a place to hunt for me and my brother. Thanks for any suggestions.

Check out the public land in Lauderdale and Haywood Counties. The land in Lauderdale used to be called Anderson-Tully WMA but now it is called something else. The Haywood County land is Hatchie NWR.Both are about an hour's drive from Memphis. You will need bug spray.

Natchez Trace WMA, Ernest Rice WMA, and Moss Island WMA are all within 1 to 1.5 hours of Millington if that is were your stationed, PM me and I can tell you about the other public lands around Benton County if your interested.

Thanks for the help. Now I just have to get my boots dirty and do my homework. Any idea on which of these will be the least crowded?

they might be under water now with the mississippi be ing up and the hatchie gets out on rains like this.

Most of the time they are packed to the max for about the first week of season, after that things settle down.  But it can be hard huntin. Those old toms are pretty smart, or im just stupid haha. :fud:

Don't know exactly where you are at but Ft. Campbell (Clarksville area) has great turkey hunting.  LBL (Dover area) is a good public option also but a lot shorter season.  Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the info. I'm actually stationed in Memphis as a Recruiter for the next 3 years. So if you guys need anything give me a shout.

You're a long way from both places I mentioned but either would be doable on a weekend camping trip.  Ft. Campbell has a lot of special rules and regs but as active duty military you would get first draw on any of the open areas.  Memphis is a fun town.  Enjoy it.  Don't leave too much $$ down across the border in Tunica.  Good luck.

As of right now I am going to be in Memphis in the middle of April the week of the 18th for a week as well.. I was looking for a public place close by but have not found much.. I am considering hopping the border and hunting Arkansas.. the St. Francis National Forest and WMA ..  looks to be about a 1.5 hour drive from Memphis..

Anybody know anything about that place??
