Interesting...longbeard with jake fan

I captured multiple pictures of him. Definitely has a fan of a jake, but with longbeard. Never got  a good luck at the spurs.

I think he was an early hatch bird.  Thus the longer beard.  Just hasn't been alive long enough to have grown out all his tail feathers.

I would guess he is re-growing tail feathers after molting and you just caught him before they all filled back in all the way.

I've seen some of our rios with either the same situation of your bird, and the opposite....mature fan and jake beard.  I have no idea why they do it.  Some jakes can gobble like mature toms too.

The secondary wing feathers look to be well developed.  On jakes those secondary feathers form not as wide a band and often the band looks a little ragged.

Beard and secondary feathers indicate a mature bird.  But I agree on it being a jakelike fan.

Probably a young barely mature bird.  Turkey puberty!
