Here are a couple of my scratchboxes made in my new style . The first one is made from maple from NY state and padauk . The soundboard is made from an old fencepost from Eminence , Missouri . The second one is made from a solid block of cherry that came from my friend Dick Kirby before he passed away . It also has a soundboard made from a 100 yr old fencepost . These calls have lots of tone and volume , and produce a yelp that breaks over like a boxcall does . The purrs and clucks sound very realistic .
I feel like the scratchbox is one of the most under-rated calls made , mostly because you can't over-run one . And because the soft sounds they make sound very much like a turkey .
I have been making scratchbox calls since I was about 18 yrs old ( a few days ago , LOL ) and these are by far my favorite ones . If I can build you one for your spring season , let me know . Thanks for looking !
