Not a turkey gun question but a firearm question none the less...
Anyone out there shooting the 6.5 X 47?? Or the .260??
Might have a line on a Lapua Tac Precision chambered in the 6.5 X47...everything I have been able to find has pretty good reviews, expecially terminal effect. Just curious if anyone has 1st hand knowledge on the round/rounds...
Thanks in advance

I have a Model 700 chambered in .260. It is a easy gun to shoot and is very accurate. I've probably killed 20 or so deer with it at ranges of 40 yards to 350 yards. Only one has gone further then 10 yards. That particular deer ran about 100 yards before expiring because I hit it a little further back then I intended.

That would make a great prairie dog round!

after having .204 , .17, i figured out these guns were too small to do anything big with. so i built a .260 on a 700 action, varmint contour barrel, mcmillan stock, timney trigger, nf 5x15 optics. it is now my all around rifle except for bear hunting. shoots flat, super fast, accurate,no recoil at all. it really likes handloads in the 100-120grain range. have also shot many deer with it at extended ranges.

My brother had a 0.260 ackley improved custom rifle built on a Rem 700 action with a Douglas 3 groove barrel and a Lone Wolf stock. It likes anything you put through it. When firing new brass to resize the shoulder with 0.260 factory loads or downloaded rounds hand loaded with cheap components just to resize the brass will shoot 1/2" five shot groups at 100 yards.
As with any cartridge, it's effectiveness is most directly related to properly choosing a bullet to match the game animal and velocity it will be travelling.

My brother has been deer hunting with a 700 SSDM .260 for years. Great little caliber IMO.
