Pattern Confusion?

I traded my Stoeger M2000 and Remington 870 to get a new Mossberg 835 Turkey Gun. I understand the reason behind trying different chokes and loads but I can't afford to go that route. I patterned the 835 with the factory Ulti-Full turkey choke (.690) @ 40 yards on a color-burst turkey target with Federal Mag-Shok FC 3", 2 oz., #6 shells. With the following info, is this pattern good for a gobbler out to 40 yards?

7 pellets in brain/spine
56 pellets in head/neck
160 pellets on 12"X12" target

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Excuse me for asking this, but why did you trade two supreme guns for one that is worth less money ? I think your dealer ripped you the heck off. But to answer your question if thats your numbers then your good to go! Post a picture of that pattern.

hookedspur

Yes those numbers are sufficient.

They were both used guns. I haven't learned how to post pics yet but I'm planning on figuring it out this week.

 ??? ???
I can't figure this one out
I would have kept the 2 guns I had, both of them can be turned into a great turkey killer
it's not the harvest,it's the chase

Depends on how technical you want us to get.

A single #6 shot in the brain will kill a turkey.  More is better in my opinion.

Most of the board will measure a gun with 40 yard shots with pattern density in a 10 inch circle. Most want more than 100 shot in the 10 inch circle.

Your 12X12 inch paper area is 144 inches squared. A 10 inch circle area is 78.5 inches squared. 78.5 divided by 144 = .545

So 160 pellets in a 12x12 target is equal to 87.2 pellets in a 10 inch circle   ( 160X.545= 87.2)

So I would say NO, it's not enough.
Just my opinion, and figures, doesn't mean it is right.

Congrats on the new turkey gun though. I'm sure you'll get to where you want it.  :icon_thumright:
