Your thoughts on snacks in the woods?
October 27, 2011, 09:26:47 AM
I often take a snack with me hunting usually jerky, candy bars, cereal bars, ect. Do you guys think the scent of this food affects your time in the stand? I have always taken snacks with me and I havent had a deer bust me from having anything like that. what are your thoughts? Do you think they like the smell, doesnt affect them in anyway?

You never know what may catch their attention, but I think they will smell you and associate it with danger before any snacks. Just my opinion.

If I take any "pre-packaged" type of snack I usually take it out of its original packaging and put it in a zip loc bag, they are much more quite than a noisy package.
I've never had anything smell me because of my snack that I know of.

Thats what I usually do, I take chips or what ever out of the packaging and put it in a zip loc. I fed a squirrel dropping chips below my stand. Entertained me for 20 minutes

It's hard to say what will spook one. I have spit BBQ sunflower seeds on a deers back and it didn't mind. I usually have coffee with me in the stand. A few weeks ago I had just poured a cup and a doe walked within about 10 yards of me where I was sitting on the ground. I do think a loud wrapper would cause one to spook.

Put em ziplocks, zip em back shut when finshed w/wrappers. Mostly I take apples and a bottle of water.
I killed a good 8pt eating a pbj one time, maybe they like smuckers.

I like salted in the shell peanuts. Usually feed a few to the mice and chipmunks.
