Got a good deal on a 3" 870 w/21" barrel. I plan to polish the barrel before patterning. I have a GT .655 and tight wad .660 to try now. How do you think these will do with H13 #7? Or should I just buy another IC or jelleyhead and save myself the time and shells. Thanks

To be honest you won't know until you shoot some Hevi-13 loads through each.  I think you will get slightly better patterns with a choke constrictions around .660  to .675.  But like I said try them.  I would shoot the 7's over the 6's if you want better pattern densities.  I prefer the 7's over the 6's and others are just the opposite.

Here is a 23" 870 barrel with a PG .670 shooting Hevi-13 3" 2oz #6.  When I went tighter my pattern kind of blew apart.  So if I were you I would stick with a .665 or .670 choke.

If you're set on the 7's, I'd probably get the JH .660 and try it because others have had very good luck with it....If you dont like it, I bet you can find someone to re-sell it to.

I have a IC BDS .665 in my supermag that I will try also. I haver never shot a Jelleyhead but have shot several tightwads and have been pleasantly surprised.  Is there that big of a difference between the JH and tightwad?

I believe the Kicks GT .655 will be just the ticket for those H-13 #7's. :z-winnersmiley:

I shot the "big 3" chokes this weekend out of my 870 (21" barrel), all patterning with Mag Blends so the 7's will probably like something a little different but...

The PG did the best in the 10 and 20" but not by much.

The .665 jellyhead was very good and so was the Indian creek.  I will note that even though the IC was close on the 10" circle, the most even patterns overall were from the PG and then the JH.

10" results with the M.Blends=
PG(.670)= 232
IC(.665)= 228
JH (.665)= 220

I agree with you redleg.  Most of the chokes are going to be very similar in numbers but what I found that interested me more than anything with the Pure Gold chokes wasn't necessarily that it had the highest numbers but that it was more "Consistent" and had in my opinion the most "Even & Full Killing" pattern of all the chokes that I have tested.  And in my opinion this is why I am a firm believer in the Pure Gold brand.  :icon_thumright:

Do yourself a favor and try a Remington Ventilator choke for no more than they cost.  You won't be disappointed.  I have the same setup and am getting 200+ with 1 3/4 oz #6's

That's the best choke period for the money in the 870 unless they start giving chokes away.   :z-winnersmiley:

That's one heck of a pattern there.  Can we see the pattern please?  WoW!

I like the Indian Creek .665 in my 21" barreled Remington 1187. I am avg. 206 pellets on the 10" circle at forty yards. The pattern is even and consistent. If the  Indian Creek .665 is too tight in your 21" barreled remy you could go with Indian Creek .670 or the Pure Gold .670.

if you were surprised with the tight wad wait till you see the patterns that IC puts up. A jellyhead is a much better choke then a tight wad. In most cases a .660 jelleyhead will pattern about evenly with a .665 IC
