Cataracts

Going to have to have the surgery this summer. Just looking for advice from guys that had it done. Mainly is it worth the money for the super lenses to get rid of the reading glasses?

I had my right done a couple years ago an was the best thing for me. I still wear glasses for up close but at a distance I don't need them. I would do it again if or when my other eye needs it.

My mom had both eyes done. Wore glasses for 70 years, no more glasses. She said it was the best thing she ever did for herself. Good luck and God Bless. Z

True story-My eye doctor is a friend of mine and I only had to have my right eye done.  When we were going through my options with one of his employees she gave me three choices and I said lady I want to see a turkeys butt at 100 yards so which lens do you recommend? And to confirm I asked the Dr. the same thing and we opted for the lens that can be tweaked with a laser to give the best possible sight.  Yes it was expensive based on the others, like $4k but I think it was well worth it.  So far my left eye is fine BUT I still have to have readers to see and read up close.  Hope this helps and good luck with the procedure.

My wife had both of her eyes done several years ago (one month apart) and they put the regular corrective lenses in to correct her vision which hasn't changed since her surgery, (She had glasses and contacts from an early age.)  This procedure was covered by insurance.  She opted out of the, what we call Old man and or Old woman correction because of cost and optometrist advising that it wouldn't completely cure the presbyopia.  She has a couple of pair of Old Woman glasses from Wally Mart and the like that cost $5 that work fine she says.

I paided for my lenses I can read and see distance. Although I have floaters in my left eye that are problematic. Your eyes will never be 20 again but I'm glad I had the surgery. My wife also got the extended lenses but she has stigmatism and it was a waste  of money she still has to wear readers. 5 grand out the windows. As I understand it medicare pays for standard lenses. Like I said we paid for better lenses  worked for me not for her. Wish you the best.

Bubba, my wife had both of her eyes done earlier this year. One at a time, of course. Her cataracts were so bad that she was practically blind in one of her eyes. Her vision is 1,000% better now. She still needs the readers, because they have nothing to do with your eyes. Instead that's because as you get older the muscles that focus your eyes get weaker, and eventually you need readers. She has no regrets and wishes she'd have done it sooner.

Going on my 5th year with just the basic surgery. Paid 250 total after insurance/Medicare kicked in.Bought Walmart readers & still using them.Vision last year was still 20/15. Only regret in having the surgery....I didn't do it sooner.
