Spring Creek Calls

It has now happened to me after 4 years and multiple gobblers, the SA-28 did not pick up a shell out of the magazine after shooting a gobbler. I was stunned and disappointed to see no shell in the chamber as I  unloaded after the kill. Hoping it was a one time only event.

That stinks. Do you take apart and clean the mag tube?
Surprising how much crud gets in there.  I had this happen once, so I make sure to clean the tube after each season and switched the springs out to wolff extra power and a low drag follower where I can.

I'll give that a try. Got one more hunt this spring.

Had the same problem this year with Apex Ninja load... Are TSS loads just too hot of a load for auto guns, I started a post about Auto ejection problems. I think some of our problems with guns are, they are still building the action with lead loads in mine in my opinion .. not based on these new TSS rounds ...

Hotter loads help with ejection and cycling in both a gas operated auto loader and inertia driven systems. If it was too hot we'd be seeing pressure issues inside the bore and chamber, cracked extractors, and things of that nature.

Thanks ... I cleaned it again really well so hopefully I want have more problems.

I guess what I was trying to say is do these TSS loads cause the action to cycle way too fast for proper ejection..

I believe Greg's assessment is spot on. I shot multiple 1 oz Federal loads prior to hunting and all ejected and a shell was picked up from the magazine each time. I did order a Wolff XP magazine spring and sure hope it fixes the problem. I  love this little turkey killer!

Hopefully that was an isolated event and won't happen again. I also love my SA28, it has behaved well with TSS handloads for 2.5 seasons. Keep us posted.

Can you PM me the Wolff xp magazine spring order number or what I need to order from them for my 28 ga. Mossberg ...thanks ..

It's not so much the fact it's TSS , it's the charge weight. The gun was designed to handle up to 1 ounce loads.

The spring costs $5.90 + $5 shipping. The XP springs adds 20% more pressure in the magazine tube. We'll see shortly if it helps. And a great opportunity to clean the mag tube as stated above.
