I am new here, but that is the most ignorant thing I have ever heard regarding accidental pellets in the meat, lead or tss.

It's all in fun... you need to read some of the other posts.... Lot of us understand and have been on this forum a long time and we enjoy the humor ... LOL ...

If it was just "ribbing", I apologize.

What brand are you using

I stopped at a shop last week, had a #9 tss shot in a small cube of raw meat. A new Garret would not pick it up. Put 3 pellets together on a wooden table, wouldn't detect them either.
That was disappointing.

A cheap one from Amazon. Put a single #9 in a thick book and it detects it. That book is denser than any turkey breast.

Paper is certainly not more dense than turkey meat.

One piece yeah, but the center of a hard back book, yes it is.

Density is a measure of weight over volume.  Your book may be thicker.

I am aware of the formula. Appreciate it.

It was disappointing with the Garret, it's supposed to be one of the better ones.

What is the brand name of yours,I would be interested in getting one.

see if it will detect a #9 pellet in a 1"cube of meat.
The guy at the shop tried the garret on other small pieces of metal, no problem, but like I said wouldn't pick up on 3 uncovered pellets

This works well for breast meat. You can clearly see the black pellets in the flesh
Don't know about legs. Never worried about pellets in leg meat but I know some of y'all will need to check.

What specific model did you get off of Amazon that worked well?

Quote from: mountainhunter1 on April 29, 2025, 10:06:15 AMI will go ahead and say it and get stoned for it possibly. If you stay inside of 40 yards, there will be few to any pellets in the breast meat. The breast is so tender that they will pass through. I have been digging and digging, but yet to find a TSS #9 in a piece of breast meat from a bird shot inside of forty yards give or take a step.

But I will confess that most of my birds are shot at 30-35. Ain't no breast stopping a TSS 9 at that range unless you shot through some brush to slow it down.

I've pulled lots of Apex #9's out of turkeys shot at 40 yards and much closer.

Killed on last week at 15 yards that had an absolute mess of pellets under the skin...on top of the lead 6s that were already there.  I think it might be borderline inedible.
