YG...It really depends on the situation. On short trips to nearby areas where I/we are driving our vehicles, we often just sleep in our trucks and take minimal gear. We can handle doing that for a night or two. On longer trips where, again, we are driving, we generally set up a pretty basic "tent camp" with all the amenities needed for a few days. That usually consists of one main tent (I have a good-sized canvas tent with a fairly large attached "vestibule" (covered area outside the tent).
If there are more than three of us, we also set up an "Easy-Up", as well...and if we are expecting cold weather conditions, we will enclose the vestibule and Easy-Up with tarps so we can keep that area heated. Within that space, we will have a cooking area, tables, camp chairs, etc. (We have all more-or-less agreed that we are maxed-out on that set-up after four or five days)
On longer trips to distant places, we usually fly, get a rental vehicle, and either stay in an Airbnb-type set-up or in a motel. Although a couple of us used to have travel trailers (or pop-ups) that we would take on occasion, all of us have gotten rid of those just because we just did not use them enough to justify having them. No more than we go on these excursions anymore, we have just decided that "roughing it" for a few days will suffice...and I personally kind-of enjoy camping out once in a while.
Do you have similar, established routines for your outings? (your question might be a good one to move over to the general forum to see what others on OG do, as well...)
