Anyone out there have an idea when they're gonna announce the draw recipients for Kansas Turkey? I know the period ended on the 9th. Just trying to get some plans in place. Got some private land I wanna try this year.

Someone posted on here that it will be in March. I think that's way too long but it's their draw I guess

Yeah - Way too long.  Iowa's draws came out February 7th.

Deer draw has taken atleast a month the last four years. I wouldn't get my hopes up on having it too soon.

I am genuinely curious why it would take very long after the closing date of the application period to complete the draw? It's pretty frustrating to wait. For me, I like to have a plan and make all arrangements for myself, my wife and kids, the landowner I will be hunting on, the small place we rent for lodging each year, my days off of work, etc. For some of us there are many things to get in order before we make the trip.

Maybe there's a reason it can't happen until the end of this month or early March. When I called the KDWP today the lady kind of laughed and said they hope to know by early March. If it's a lack of organization then maybe they ought to have a better plan before implementing this whole thing.

I don't like that states are moving to this type of system. However, If it must be done then I appreciate how Nebraska has handled it. Open it up to sell this many tags and sell that many and then cut it off. The draw makes planning difficult if they aren't very prompt with their results.

The only thing I don't like is how non-resident youth have to draw also.

Just need to buy 80 acres with turkeys. Then it's otc tags........gotta adapt

I've applied several times and they've always been slow about getting the results out.

Colorado use to be pretty flippant about turkey draw results. Heck there are much more important draws...elk deer antelope etc. The turkey draw results wouldn't come in until mid March or later. Some state's seasons had started already.

Now the last couple of years the results are posted 10 days or less after the app deadline. Not sure what happened but they don't accept big game apps until the turkey draw is done and posted.

A quick turnaround can be done in this age of computers. Kansas just needs to get on the stick...and also care about it.

One thing tho. Kansas has a special hunt deal and I would think nonresident hunters need to know if the are going to apply. Or maybe KS doesn't want to include nonresident hunters.

I griped about this the other day, even though for me personally, it's not a big issue being retired and living in Missouri.

I know something needs to be done. I've hunted Kansas for spring turkey every year but one for over 30 years, and have witnessed a gradual decline in the population in my primary hunting area since probably 2005 or so, and a dramatic drop a few years later due largely to weather events, I believe.

That said, for most of those years, there was no system in place to actually know what the harvest was, because check in wasn't required. In 2020 the limit dropped from 2 to 1 in most of the state. Should have been done years before, IMO. They left the limit 2 birds in the northwest part of the state, increasing hunting pressure in that region, another mistake, IMO.

Eventually, they came up with a mandatory check in system. Great, if the locals comply. Most do, I am sure, but judging by the compliance rate in Alabama, which also came late to the party regarding checking in your kills, it's a process.

What actually irritates me is that, to my knowledge, the group most affected by the quota, the nonresident licence purchasers, had no input in the way it was implemented. I understand prioritizing residents, but 30 plus years of buying nonresident licenses and turkey tags should give one some small voice in the process.

Kansas allows you to bait turkeys legally........ think on that

Hook hanger

I say let them bait my farms never have needed bait to hold them though.
