Poults vs Fawns

I have seen as many or more fawns this year as I have poults. Same areas I have monitored for years. Good thing for the deer hunters, but not as  good for the turkey hunters. Just an observation. Z

I've seen 2 fawns and got a trailcam pic of another.  All 3 were singles with the mother.  Singles seem to have become the norm here over the last 10 or 15 years.  We certainly do not suffer from a deer shortage here.  No shortage of fawn predators, either.  So, maybe, it's best......especially for the farmers.

Happy day, I saw 2 hens with poults yesterday. They were actually together, 2 bigger poults and 5 newly hatched. Things may be looking up. I did see a new fawn 2 days in a row, bad news is that it and mom were crossing a busy road both days.  Fingers crossed for them. Z

Have seen quite a few fawns but yet to see any poults but that's not unusual here in Michigan. Start seeing poults in July most years.

We had an incredible number of fawns in the neighborhood last year. Actually I saw them everywhere around town for a while. I haven't seen any yet this spring but I did shoot four big does at my house in an effort to lower the numbers. Maybe it worked.
