Why do some great products get discontinued, Nikon Red Dot?

My godson was in our local hardware/sport store and looked on the shelf and spotted a Nikon Monarch Red Dot Camo sight new in the box. He got it for $100 dollars, someone bought it, never mounted it. He knew I was looking for one, thus I have it. This sight is amazing. It is waterproof, has 11 brightness settings, and five or so Dot size settings. The real kicker that I really wanted is that it has 1 power magnification. I do not know if any other Red Dot out there has magnification? The Monarch Series of Nikon Optics is really good, the sight is very well made. I mounted it on my Cynergy Turkey gun, the Camo looks perfect. I bore sighted it, will be patterning soon. Moral of the story is this sight has been discontinued. Go figure, a product that seems to check all the right boxes disappears? Oh well, it has a lifetime warranty, so I will give it a go. Thanks for listening, be safe....

Nikon discontinued all sporting optics a few years back. Don't really know why other than that they probably didn't hold enough of the market to make it worthwhile. I've got Nikon scopes on multiple deer rifles and always loved them.

Amen my friend....I love them too. Their Binos are great too....be well.

I found out that the new president, ceo or whatever it was is VERY anti hunting and they were getting tons of pressure from the birders even before he came in so they just decided to cave to the antis. They are not the first and won't be the last unless we stop arguing among ourselves and get as organized at the nut jobs are.

Yea, it's a shame that they stopped making those great optics. Sad to see that they are caving to the anti's and giving up profits. Oh well, their choice.....

I agree, i have always enjoyed Nikon products and they were reasonably priced and performed flawless.. Congrats Tom on your store find.

Most of my firearms have Nikon on them, if they had not stopped making them I was going to get a 4.5-16x50mm for the woodchuck gun

This is why I have to much crap. Because when I find something I like I buy multiples because I know when it's time to replace it will no longer exist.

I learned LOOOOOOONG ago if I find a piece of hunting equipment like a rifle scope, bino harness, rifle sling, gloves other clothing boots etc that I absolutely love and it has made a difference in my hunting I buy at least two of them. As I wear size 14-15 XX-XXXW boots when I find a pair that fits I buy at least two pair often three. Same with finger-mitten gloves. Once found a pair of no-name maker finger-mitten gloves with 400mg Thinsalte and built in thin but wind-proof fingers. Best cold weather hunting gloves I have ever owned.
Thank God when I realized how great they worked for both a gun and bow hunting application I immediately bought four pair because they went out of production only one or two years after the year I bought 4 pair.

Another example was about 4-5 years ago Alleghany Military Surplus had made in USA by Belleville, Bates or Rocky authentic USGI Gore-tex warm weather and ICW boots in mine and my sons sizes of 14XXW and 14.5XXW for between $25-$40 a pair along with both black and white Mickey Mouse boots for $35-$45 a pair. Bought enough to last a life time for all of us. Used them hard now for deer and turkey seasons and they worked far far better than I ever dreamed or even hoped they might.

Now they are all selling for 2-3x what I paid for them and that's if you can even find them.

I do the same. I get something and I end up liking it I'll go get another to keep as a spare
