Lead Shot Only

Can I shoot TSS through a Remington choke that say's Lead Shot Only.

Idk is your TSS lead? Pretty obvious answer no? Chokes labeled lead only are to be shot w lead per the manufacturer.  You could always ask Remington though. I'd be interested in hearing what they say.

Could swell the choke and possibly damage the barrel. Don't ask me how I know.

Pretty simple really. Follow the manufacture directions or damage could occur.

I wouldn't try it. I saw what happened to my friend's IC choke with the old flight control wads, nasty! Modern choke is cheaper than a  new gun ... or an eye.

Over the years...I've seen quite a good number of destroyed choke tubes posted right here on this site , thats just the ones I've SEEN ... it is very reasonable to assume there is quite a bit more nobody even knows about

Some of the chokes were catastrophic failures where they peeled right open and destroying the barrel in the process

Remington isn't out of business. They just have new owners.

I just looked at my Remington Super Full choke and it says lead only.  I've shot HW 7's and TSS for years through it and not had any problems.  I didn't realize people had issues.  I have that same choke in 2 guns that get hunted daily in the spring.   Probably been over a hundred HW 7's or TSS 9's shot through them.

Has anyone specifically had an issue with the Remington factory super full choke ?

I was thinking that Remington did't want steel shot fired through those chokes.

Ive been shooting tss through my star bright choke. So far so good. I guess I need to search for another choke tube.

I believe in what it says, not somebody else's opinion. Safety precautions are there for a reason, you know, like don't look down the barrel of a loaded gun.

It has been my impression that the "lead only" chokes are far safer to use with smaller shot sizes...

There is a considerable difference between the force put on the barrel between shooting BB steel shot, and #6 Hevi-shot...

One of the differences is, that lead "gives," and a lot of the non-toxic is far harder and does not give.  Forcing larger pellets at high speeds that do not give, is a bit different than pushing smaller shot sizes.

I have heard of and seen barrels destroyed by shooting steel through tight chokes, but have yet to hear of or see a barrel destroyed by smaller shot sizes...  This thread is the first I have heard of such happening?

I would be curious as to the wads and shot sizes of those on these forums that have destroyed barrels and chokes?  Has anyone actually had choke/barrel damage done with any shot sizes smaller than #4's??

One exception is an old Model 37 I have in which the barrel was threaded for very thin chokes.  Apparently the material in in the chokes, combined with with how thin the chokes are, could be damaged by using steel...  I honestly doubt it, but have not had the courage to experiment (as the chokes are paper-thin).

I bought a used tube off of a member here that was swelled and after checking with a few tube makers they all said it's a lead only tube and the only way that it would swell was that it been used for non lead loads...so I was left with nothing.
