We came in from totally different areas so he didn't know I was there. I knew he was due to his call. Not saying I sound good, but he stated he thought it was a hen. Just got to me. As close as it all was I am wondering what I could have done differently.
Could you have stood up and rolled the bird?  Otherwise it sounds like you did nothing wrong.  Also does not necessarily sound like the hunter did anything wrong.

I have bumped plenty of birds trying to get too close, and often the acoustics in the woods can make birds sound much further than they are.

If the woods are that crowded, I might take some sort of bright chartreuse flag (some idiot might think that orange is a turkeys head) you could quickly put up if you become aware of another hunter coming at you?
Did I do that?

Really don't know what to say about your incident Mm.  You were caught up in what I would consider to be a "lightning strike" set of circumstances,...circumstances that are probably as rare as getting struck by lightning.  You were lucky that it didn't turn out worse than it did,...but you were extremely unlucky that it even happened in the first place.

All any of us can do is hunt as carefully and defensively as we can, but that only goes so far.   People are going to hunt the way they want to.  The best any of us can do is to try to minimize as many potential factors that might impact our safety as each situation allows.

I'll give this other hunter the benefit of the doubt. I too have bumped birds accidently when trying to set up to close. What I did not do is try to shoot the bird as it ran through the brush or flew away. In my book that shot is unethical most likely crippling or killing the bird never to be found. So was he trying to take an unethical shot or was he trying bushwack him. Only the other guy knows. Either way that's not what happens when you know how to turkey hunt. My opinion and I have been wrong before. Ha reminds me of a saying. " Once I thought I was wrong but I was mistaken".

Here it is. Hunter heard a hen calling and claimed the victim was sneaking around in the woods. I don't know how to share FB to the forum. Turkey killers of America FB page.

Don't have FB anymore. I'll assume he got shot. At least it missed his eyes. Shame either way though.

In this thread I mentioned hunters stalking calling in the woods vs reaping.  That's what happened in this case. Hunter said he heard hen calling 15 min before he shot this guy.
