Hastings wad lock barrel
February 07, 2020, 02:37:25 PM
My dad recently purchased a 11-87 with a 30 inch Hastings wadlock barrel, b square scope mount with scope and a 670 choke screwed into the barrel unsure of the brand. It is being shipped to him now. Anyone shot one of these barrels or have any recommendations for loads to try out. I will post a picture of the gun and some patterns once it shows up. Thanks

A friend of mine purchased a wadlock Hastings barrel for his Browning A5. It had its own screw in choke system ( was not browning) . I can't help you with turkey loads as he used it for waterfowl... but it patterned steel shot better than most modern shotguns.

If I remember correctly the "wad loc" barrels were rifled with straight rifling. The idea was to keep the shot cup from spinning the shot for tighter patterns.
ShootingABN!

If I remember right. It only takes Hasting chokes. With that 30" barrel and .670 I'd guess it's love some #4 copper. However, shot whatever and see what she does.
Good luck.

longboard 5's or 6's worked good for me.
Spring turkey hunting, I love it so. FREEDOM IS NOT FREE

Thanks for the replies, we will start with long beards and I will let y'all know how it does. It is straight rifled with like six straight groves.
