Proud to be an American on Omaha Beach this day! On this spot on a day in early June 1944 the gates of Hell opened for a time and these men stood in the breech. Thanks to them we are free! May God rest and keep them.

A truly humbling experience.  :jesus-cross:   :smiley-patriotic-flagwaver-an

The only land we kept is the places we buried our dead. May they Rest In Peace.  :jesus-cross:

My Granddad was on that beach as well.A genuine war hero, highly decorated.Said it was a meat grinder.

My father landed on D-Day +1 marched and fought all the way to Belgium and the tail end of the Bulge. My Grandad was there in 1917, Army Artillery. God Bless that generation. They came home, raised families and never talked about it. All my Dad said was I left it over there. Thank God for men that step in the gap.

Amazing !

I took a tour there a few years ago with my older son and in found the trip very worthwhile !

We visited the cemeteries and watched several french families come and pay thier respects to the US and Canadian grave sites -

I can't imagine how brave those soldiers were to scale those cliffs and land on those beaches, jumping out of planes to think about it even today is mind boggling

I hope people worldwide never forget what sacrifices were made

God forgive me my father-in-law landed on Iwo and was there for the duration. And wouldn't you know his oldest boy and oldest daughter were born on the anniversary date of the invasion on Iwo 19 Feb.

Thank them all for their service and their sacrifice.
