Deception decoy review

Tail Feathers

I decided I needed a real nice decoy for when I hunt with the grandkids.  Some of them are young and fidgety and I need a deke.  I found out a coworker was friends with the Deception Decoy guys.  He spoke highly of them and their products and I asked if had an "in" on good pricing.  Turns out he did so I ordered an upright hen at a great price.  It came in and I have to say it is at least equal of the DSD in looks.  It is heavier than DSD.  I handled one of those last month and the Deception is a bit heavier.  But if feels more substantial.
I like the metal stake.  It has a metal piece sticking out sideways and can be reversed on windy days to limit decoy movement when that piece goes between the deke's legs.  It comes with a gray carry bag that is well made and just the right size and may hold two. Not sure on that tho. It has a fairly wide strap for comfortable carry.
It looks real.  The detail is awesome.  They can customize the paint, tint or species as they hand paint every one.  The pose is anatomically correct and the decoy is life sized where the DSD is smaller than life size I think.  It has deeper wing and breast relief to accentuate shadows for realism.
It's made in American by good people.  While I haven't used it as my season is over, it's a great decoy and I recommend it.  Kind of wish I had gotten the one with the head turned now.  That's a great looking deke too.
I don't have a pic but their website pics are real and show it as it is.

My friend has the look back hen, love the pose but still prefer the look of the dsd, but I doubt the turkeys care!

I have deception and dsd hens and have to disagree that the deception is equal to dsd. While made good and painted good it is still a bit less than the looks of a dsd. However the deception guys are great people and I highly recommend them and their products. As was said the thrkeys wont notice the difference.

I have not had both in hand at the same time to do a true head to head comparison, but from my same season look at both, I'd be happy to have either one and don't think a turkey could tell the difference. :icon_thumright:

I would have to call that boss hen, the golden hen. Looks like too much gold color in it for my liking. I'm sure the turkey don't care though.

hey guys, been talken about deception decoys for the last couple years, well at least their jake decoy

i bought their jake decoy a couple years back after talking to them on the phone...

it has only been a BLESSN to my 1 dsd alert hen and 2 dsd feeder hens, this years my set up brought in

4 dead long beards for my family and i and to say that he( the jake decoy) got his butt beat would be an

understatement, along with last year as well, to me over the last few years since owning a deception jake,

and the success we have had with using it, it has paid for its self many times over, was a great purchase

and you will never look back, good luck to all, russ
