I purchase a used Rem 870 to build for hunting. The guy I purchase it from had a 19-19.5in barrel on there. Will that length pattern good or should I go longer? I don't want to go no longer then a 21in barrel. Where I hunt I don't have long shots, I'm looking for a mobile gun to run and gun the swamps.

The only way to tell is pattern it. If pattern is good you are good to go!

The barrel is un-threaded. So I'll have to send it off to get it threaded. Just wondering if it worth sending it off or just buying another barrel. Looking for best and cheapest route. Anyone on here that has a 19-19.5in barrel and already know how it performs would help a lot.

My 12 is a 20" Remchoke with a Kicks .660.  It throws a great hunting pattern with Winchester 5's and 6's and H13 6's and 7's.  A .655 brought the numbers up some but I liked the 20" overall of the .660 better.

if the cost to get it threaded is less than a new or used barrel then thats what i'd do, You might be able to pick up a used barrel pretty cheap to.

Sell the 19" barrel on Ebay and use the proceeds to buy a new 21" barrel.  A 19" cylinder bore 870 slug barrel will fetch a quick $125 to $150 on Ebay.  That will give you a good chunk towards a new barrel.

Yea haven't thought of that thanks.

JMHO........the cheapest may be to have it threaded, why not check on that first if money is an issue, $75 seems to be the going rate lately, Comp-n-Choke as starting point, lots of other shops on-line.
