Longbeards rattling

I saw a post on here a while back about this but couldn't find it. I bought two boxes of longbeards and they all rattled. At first I though...figures....quality control goes down as sales go up....but I noticed that these shells seemed to have (slightly) more forgiving 20-25 yd patterns than the box I bought last year (that didn't rattle) and fired out of the same gun earlier last week. Are they purposefully leaving shot outside the resin slug to improve close shots?  Or is it just a fluke and I'm making something out of nothing.

You may be talking about my post, as I posted about this same thing last year. I only use the rattling shells to check POA/POI at 10 yards, as I do not trust them out to 40. I am sure there is nothing wrong with them, and they would pattern just as well as non-rattling shells, but I prefer the shells that are put together the way they are meant to be.

My guess is that some of the resin just got knocked loose somewhere between the factory and the store. I would just try a few at 40 and if you are happy with the pattern, keep them.

I noticed this too. I shoot 3" number 5's and noticed the regular loads rattle a little bit vs the magnum loads. I e-mailed Winchester too see what they have to say.

Old thread same problem year two. FYI Winchester will refund them inferring there is a flaw somewhere. Buying online shouldn't be a crap shoot.

If you got 2 whole boxes rattling take one apart and see what the deal is.  Curious if the whole resin is busted or just a couple of loose pellets.  If they still pattern okay and consistent, I'd still shoot'em.

i have 15 boxes of long beards and a lot of them rattle.. have shot the cones that rattle vs the ones that do not. Pattern performance did not change.

I have done the same. I found less pattern density at 40, more flyers at 40, more open pattern at 25. I suspect the resin degrades and becomes brittle and they fracture more easily. Good luck with those 15 boxes.

Shot quite a few and never have noticed this in the Longbeards, but have in the Nitros.
