I have a question about chokes? Are the truglo SSX .670 (tg151x)and the truglo Bone collector .670(bc161x) the same choke or it is just made different?
gotta love the outdoors!

They are two quite different designs but both are excellent.

Thanks,

Hey David,

Both the Bone Collector and the SSX are "strong" chokes weighing-in a 4.2 oz and 4.0 oz respectively. They Both have false muzzles that extend beyond the true .670 muzzle, which is ported on both. The Bone Collector has a smooth conical/parallel design while the SSX has 2 steps and then it's parallel section has 8 grooves.

The Bone Collector was largely overlooked while it was readily available, except by 835 shooters, who reported excellent performance and reported even patterns with a variety of shotshells. They've become somewhat difficult to find now.

The SSX has always been quite popular with 835 shooters with both lead and Hevi-Shot loads for the same reasons. It's readily available and very inexpensive for the quality and rather complex design features.

Aesthetically, the Bone Collector is the better looking choke, at least to my eye and I much prefer the port designs of that choke tube. I suspect that anyone that has one should hang on to it, since I believe that it will become more and more collectable over the years as its performance becomes better known. It did not get much "press" while it was being produced and readily available but again, I suspect that will change over the upcoming years.

Frankly, my 835s, my SSi-ONE and my 935 like both of these chokes and while quite different in internal geometry and appearance, they both throw excellent patterns with WLB and Hevi-13 products.

Thanks,
Clark

Yes, it's approved for Hevi-Shot. Glad you found one. They're harder and harder to find now.

Thanks,
Clark
