For,against, indifferent ? Any specific reason why or why not? Personally I see it like blinds and decoys. Not my preferred  method but have nothing against it.

"There are turkey hunters and people who hunt turkeys.I hope I am remembered as a turkey hunter"

To each his own.  I know a guy that has been cross bowing for many years - it's all he uses and he does very well with it.

Just like fanning...if it's legal , go get em.

When I turkey hunt I use a DSD decoy

terp

I use one.  I feel like blinds are a hassle.   It allows me to hunt places where I can't use a gun without a blind.   I have a self imposed 20 yard limit.

Tail Feathers

I bought a crossbow right before season.  I didn't use it this year because I don't have a broadhead target to practice on yet.
I'll try it this fall for deer and hopefully next spring for turkey.  Can't really imagine why anyone would have an issue with crossbow for turkey?
Love to hunt the King of Spring!

Hunt the way you want...it's all up to you what you hunt with...

Cut N Run

I have hunted turkey with my crossbow, but haven't shot any with it yet.  I seem to always see hens and jakes in range whenever I use it.  The only longbeards I saw hunting with a crossbow were too out of range or were in thick cover I wasn't about to shoot an arrow through.

Luck counts, good or bad.

Uncle Nicky

Not for me, I know too many guys that have crippled birds with an arrow and never found them, I don't want to be a member of that club. But if it's legal and you're confident in your abilities, have at it! :anim_25:

Some will be upset regardless the implement used. I find it best to make yourself happy and not get to worried about the opinions of others. That kind of stuff can drive one mad and make some situations seem much larger than they are. Enjoy it how you want.

Bowguy

I'm a bow guy obviously. I teach lots of styles. Sometimes crossbows are involved.  In my opinion bow has nothing to do w it. It's only my opinion but it's the way I see it.
The effective range n ability to very quickly attain very good accuracy puts em more in line w a 35-40 yard turkey shot gun. There's not tons of difference except for a follow up shot. I also see nothing wrong w using em on turkeys as long as the shooter understands the animals anatomy n angles.

I prefer to use a shotgun for turkeys, but In MD some of the public land is bow only. I didn't like the idea of using a compound without a blind so I bought a crossbow. It's similar to a shotgun in that you can sit up against a tree and not have to worry about movement like you would with a compound.

Cut N Run

I tried to hunt turkeys with a longbow that a buddy of mine made, dogwood arrows that another friend made, and stone points that I knapped myself.  I never killed one with that gear, though it sure was fun trying.  Most of the time I got busted trying to draw.  I even missed a couple.  Once I got busted by a hen who was coming to the strutting gobbler.  I never heard her until she putted, then they both scrambled out of there and my hunt was done in about 2 seconds. It had been looking like a slam dunk shot before the hen showed. Talk about a huge let down.   I had a permanent injury 10 years ago on 4-21-07 which limits me and put the brakes on that plan.  I still do some knapping, but I gave the bow & arrows to a friend.

I have to say that hunting turkeys with aboriginal gear is about as intense as it gets. Plus, it really teaches you about what turkeys will tolerate and what they won't.  You realize right quick that killing turkeys with a shotgun isn't all that difficult by comparison.

I've hunted  turkeys for 23 years with a shotgun, I'm  Hunting this year for the first time with a crossbow becouse I wanted a new challenge and yet they are somewhat like a rifle and so are comfortable  fit and easier for me than a compound bow.
Female hunter hunting the wild turkey for over 20 years.
